Council of Catholic School Parents NSW/ACT

Since 1995, the Council of Catholic School Parents NSW/ACT has been the state body officially recognised by the Bishops of NSW/ACT to provide leadership, advocacy and support for parents and carers of children and young people in Catholic diocesan schools and congregational schools.

At CCSP we acknowledge parents as education partners; we value and promote the critical role that parents play in the education of their children because research has shown that students of all backgrounds achieve more if parents are involved in their child’s education. All families can support learning.

We are the body recognised by the Bishops of Queensland and Catholic Education authorities to represent Catholic School families in Queensland. We work with Principals and parents in 313 Catholic schools and we are the voice for the families of more than 150,000 students.

A fundamental role of CSPQ is to speak on behalf of parents by actively engaging in the wider educational environment. This means that we put into practice our vision of being the ‘Strong Voice for Families in Catholic Schools’. Our work in advocacy, in many areas such as funding, curriculum, health, child safety, road safety and parent engagement with state and federal government, is strong and ongoing.

The objective for the newly formed CSPSA is to be an advocate for the families, parents and carers of children in Catholic schools, Catholic early learning centres and pre-schools. We believe that school and family collaboration is essential to successful spiritual, academic and developmental growth. Our objective is for all children to have the opportunity to access a quality education that allows each child to reach his or her potential. CSPSA aims to build an environment where parents can be empowered to take an active role as the primary educators of their children. The organisation will support this empowerment by providing resources, education and support to assist all families and parents in this role.
