High-Gain Schools Can Help Drive Student Performance

The National Catholic Education Commission has welcomed today’s update of the My School website, saying the identification of schools where students have experienced significant gain in literacy and numeracy can serve to support students in other schools to lift student performance.

NCEC acting executive director Danielle Cronin said while NAPLAN is a test that provides only a snapshot of a student’s learning, it is the most nationally consistent measure currently available to assess how students are performing in their formative years. She said NAPLAN testing should be kept in context, explaining that Catholic schools see it as one measure among many as part of a holistic approach to educating a child academically, socially, morally, physically and spiritually.

"When parents and schools work together to build a culture of shared leadership and responsibility for student learning and well-being, children do better and schools get better.”
